Eastgate, is a recently annexed neighborhood in the city of Bellevue, Washington, comprised of about 1.3 square miles, all of it being land. Eastgate is in Kings County, of which Seattle is the county seat. The population is approximately 4,958 residents and the local zip code for Eastgate is 98006. Originally, the area was inhabited by Native Americans. When settlers arrived, logging, mining and farming on a small scale were commonplace. Some small farm operations still exist in areas nearby. Eastgate is located south of Interstate 90 which forms the northern edge of the neighborhood. Travel on Interstate 90 west leads to Mercer Island and then further into Seattle, a short 20 minute drive. Factoria is to the west and Beautiful Cougar Mountain to the northwest. Somerset is to the south of Eastgate. The neighborhood is almost completely residential.
School District 405 Bellevue and School District 411 Issaquah serve the children of Eastgate. Cougar Mountain Zoo is a short drive down Interstate 90 to the southwest. Industry in the area centers on professional, scientific and technical ventures. The majority of occupations held by residents are significantly high in areas related to computers and mathematics. More than half the resident here are employed in executive, management, and professional occupations. Commuters typically spend thirty minutes to an hour in travel each day. Public buses provide service to this neighborhood. A great place to shop and socialize, nearby is Downtown Bellevue. Locals help support the rural economy by shopping at the Bellevue Farmers Market, a non-profit organization committed to the preservation of farmland, small family farms and small businesses.
